Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has developed a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) information system to address associated risks on security and to ensure subscription regulations in cellular sector. The users would be able to find out the total number of SIM(s) registered against their respective CNIC number with each mobile operator.

Frankencamera, experimental open-source camera platform

The version 2.0 of the Frankencamera, an experimental open-source camera platform.

The camera’s focusing, demosaicing, denoising, white balancing, and other post-processing algorithms are programmable. The current version takes Canon EOS lenses.

From manufacturer point of view this may be attractive in terms of there is no need of design, R&D and manufacturing cost. Just keep updating the software.

Camera 2.0, which began as a collaborative project between the Stanford Computer Graphics Laboratory and the Nokia Research Center Palo Alto Laboratory, is currently also supported by Adobe Systems, Kodak, Hewlett-Packard, and the Walt Disney Company.

So far seems to be an excellent project. Need to follow how it will revolutionize the mobile industry….

Greener Electronics: Sony Ericsson has taken over #1 spot from Nokia

According to the latest edition of quarterly guide to Greener Electronics by Greenpeace, the Sony Ericsson has taken over the # 1 spot from Nokia.

Nokia and Motorola have each had a penalty point deducted after organization found their claims of global takeback were not being matched by actual practice.

For the first time TVs and the rapidly growing games consoles were assessed. The Guide ranks companies according to their policies and practices on toxic chemicals and takeback.

Google working on Search Service for cellphones

The Google, which is already offering its search engine service to cellphones, that helps users to search the web. At the moment Google is trying to develop a new search service for cellphones, that will help users to find and buy ringtones, games and other mobile contents.

In this way cellphone user would be able to search the piece of content – for examle a specific ringtone – and he will be able to get a list of providers and links to purchase the searched items. For high placement in the search results – Google will also offer the companies “Sponsored Links” similar to the web search.

Well – I think there are still lots of things need to be resolved, before we will see this service ready to use on our cellphones – The operators, cell phone manufacturers and content providers – their interaction and role. On the other hand Google’s mobile search isn’t promoted by some operators.

Call’n Cash – Make money with advertisements on your mobile

German software developer Rock Your Mobile! today announced the release of their groundbreaking advertisement solution for mobile phones.

Using Call’n Cash technology, a standard implemented by Rock your mobile!, advertisements can now be distributed to mobiles based on specific target consumer needs and profiles.

The most crucial part of a mobile phone, the user interface allowing dialing numbers and placing a call, doesn’t offer much additional features on many mobiles available on the market today. This is where Rock your Mobile!’s solution comes in, allowing the placement of high-resolution graphical advertisements on the main user screen.

The tricky part is, where the user actually gets paid for using the software on his mobile. Since the advertisements show on the screen before, while and after a call is placed, the user automatically gets a predefined amount of money transferred to his user account.

Depending on how many calls are placed, considerable amounts can accumulate over a period of time. At the end of each month, these sums are transferred to the user.

Instead of paying for a complicated marketing campaign, involving agencies and indirect costs, the advertiser uses the regularity of placed calls and thus finances its direct consumer marketing by paying the consumer for watching the advertisements.

Along with the Call’n Cash technology, comes a dedicated database with simple usability including web-based user registration, statistical analysis for the advertisers, and user account balance information with possible connections to web-based sales tools. Integrated into the mobile’s software client is an advertisement limiter as well as the necessary viewer for the advertisement image formats. Additionally, location based services can be integrated to allow direct regional marketing.
